Panic

We have a serious problem. Chief, our dog, has some serious issues. He's afraid of everything. Just to name a few...
-Baby gates
-Luggage
-Laundry baskets
-Garbage cans
-The bathroom
-Squirt bottles
and the most recent...
-Walking from the kitchen to the family room.

*You see those two door ways? They are literally around the corner from one another. In the second picture you can BARELY see through the open doorway into the family room*

What? That can't possibly be anything. Well folks, it sure is. and I'll tell you what, it's a huge problem. You never realize how much you move around your house until you have a dog sitting in your kitchen whining at you while you are watching TV.

This all started when we brought home the sheet metal for this project. When we brought it home Hub took it straight to the family room and Chief barked the whole time he was walking with it. I can kind of understand why... it's big? While we were working on it he would not go in the family room, and then when we took it to the kitchen he wouldn't go in the kitchen. When we finally got him to go in the kitchen with it, he walked really slow past it, not getting remotely close at all. After that he's been just fine. In fact his bed is right under it and it doesn't even phase him. But something changed. I think he thinks that there is some sort of monster living between the doorways. He will sneak past the door from the kitchen into the dining room to then run back into the kitchen. The worst part about it is, he can't walk very well on the wood floor, let alone try and RUN on it. It's the most annoying sound in. the. world. It's more like he just slides around until he get's his footing.

We have tried everything. We have sat on the floor at the opposite wall from the kitchen, and called him over and over and over, in all different tones of voice, but nothing works. He just cowers away and whines. Hub has even put his leash on him and walked back and forth, and this has had the best results. But once he is off the leash he just can not do it! Nothing in our house has changed, the sheet metal is in the kitchen.

I don't know what to do with my whiney baby doggy. He's such a good doggy all the time! Is there such a thing as doggy anxiety? Or Doggy schizophrenia? What do I do people?! I don't know how much longer I can take all the whining!

Isn't he the cutest?
